Dear Mr.Nadziejko and Class,
I would like to research the World Shooting and Recreational Complex in Sparta, Illinois; I would like your permission to study this group. There are so many groups that meet at the complex every weekend from Cowboy Shoots to the Grand American to boy scout events. I’ve been at 17th Street Bar and Grill at the Shooting Complex for four years. Working there has made me want to learn more about what the Complex offers and why people are willing to spend thousands of dollars in these shoots. I would also like to learn more of the history of the complex before being in Sparta. It has so many things going on all year round whether its shoots or the restaurant hosting a wedding reception it has so many uses for the people around Sparta.
At the complex they have a number of shoots year round. It includes skeet, trap, sporting clays, archery, and cowboy action shooting, camping and fishing. I’d defiantly say the shooters have a feeling of belonging when they are there for shoots. They have their own language when with other shooters, stuff someone that doesn’t shoot would not understand. It blows my mind how many people come down to Sparta every year for the Grand American, it is always so much fun to go out and see how many out of town vehicles you see. I don’t really feel connected to them.
The Shooting Complex is very easily accessible, it’s about 10 miles outside of Sparta, very welcoming and insuring proper parking and everything you need. I would defiantly be able to visit the complex whenever I need throughout the semester; I’m there almost every weekend for work. It’s defiantly safe; the IDNR office is located there, along with a security guard. I’m familiar with the Complex with just what I know from working there. I know a numerous number of people I can interview for this, which would include the people who work for the state, anyone from the city of Sparta and people that I work with. There are a lot of people I can interview on this subject. My schedule works well with the schedule at the complex. It’s open anytime Wednesday through Sunday. I will be able to get to the complex each time we have an assignment and complete it by the deadline. I will be able to go out there anytime I would need to ask questions or observe when there is shoots going on. There is actually a shoot going on this weekend, as you can see all the time. I can’t wait to start observing!
In conclusion I would like to research the World Shooting and Recreational Complex in Sparta Illinois. I look forward to learning more about the complex in general, I love learning and researching about what the complex is like for someone who isn’t from Sparta. I want the outsider’s opinion and the local people’s opinion. I want to know how everyone feels about the complex being in Sparta, and the past history of it being in Ohio.
I thought about doing this topic, but it was not going to be easy for me because I do not know about that other shoots. I just know about the Grand. So I was going to have to get this information before I could start on the other. If you want to interview a shooter from the area I have a close friend that loves trap shooting I could help you get that lined up.

Denise i think you have a good idea the complex is close and has a lot to offer that most people don't know about. Maybe talking to the conservation officers could give you info on the wildlife and regulations for fishing.
ReplyDeletethe complex is a great place. some of my family members shoot out there regularly. one thing is you will have to explain everything to the non outdoors people so they understand
ReplyDeleteSounds like you are very well prepared i am very interested in hearing about this. Goodluck with your research.

I like this topic. I know nothing about shooting clubs, and am fascinated about learning more. You could talk about the different types of equipment and the cost of equipment. Is there a certain brand of equipment that is used more than others?
ReplyDeleteWhere are you going to go to find out about the history of the complex? Cool topic.
this group includes alot.i suggest touching on some and expanding on your favorite or the ones with the most information.
ReplyDeleteDoes this complex give shooting lessons or what? I'm not familiar with this. Would this be considered a subculture? How long has it been in Sparta? Where in Ohio was it built? I am anxious to hear all about what goes on there.
ReplyDeletethis is a really great topic. i played music out their a few years ago during the grand american and i seen almost every plate in the states, it was really packed. also it would be cool to get info about it when it opend because i heard that clint eastood and ted nugent went out there... but i could be wrong about that.
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be a tough project. The facility is open to the public, and therefore a multitude of sub cultures meet there. I personally shoot sporting clay there, and would say i am not identifiable to other shooters there. Pick a specific topic. The cowboy shoots would be great. You could talk about the origin of cowboy shoots, how the shooters in Sparta relate to others across the country, and if the shooters from Sparta go other places.
